Alex Donnelly Music & Media Consultant

A Broadcast media and Music industry expert for over 20 years, Alex started as a music discographer for the MCPS before joining Kiss FM as a librarian, then music programmer and assistant head of music for the station.  In 1997 he joined BBC Radio 1 as a music scheduler and re-vamped the music policy of the station. This led to senior music manager role in 1999.  In 2000 he became Head of Music, growing listening figures to over 10.5m.  Alex adopted a ‘new music’ policy which saw UK artists such as Coldplay, The Streets and Basement Jaxx get major support. He instigated the ‘Live Lounge’ and as head of live music was the driving force behind ‘One Big Weekend’.  In 2005 Alex left to become senior A&R manager at EMI Music Publishing where he helped A&R Amy Winehouse’s 10m selling album ‘Back To Black’, as well as signing Scouting For Girls. Alex also had responsibility for all international repertoires.  In 2008, he joined Channel 4 Radio as Head of Music across their planned 3 new stations and since 2009 he’s been consulting to ACM Music College, Radio consulting to the BBC & UBC, lecturing on Radio and Music publishing, managing artists and A&R consulting for Virgin records.
